19世紀後半における「開国」を契機として、日本社会にはさまざまな欧米文化が怒濤のように流入してきた。日本の文化は、この時期に大きな変容を遂げ、現在に至っていることはいうまでもない。この変容について、近年は、アンダーソン『想像の共同体』やホブスバウム『創られた伝統』などに影響を受けた議論が大きな影響力を持っている。それらは、近代化における「過去との断絶」を重視する。この視座は、「現在」を過剰に「民族的伝統」によって装飾し、正統化しようとする動きを牽制するという意味で高く評価される。だがその反面、「現在」の深層に生き続ける「常民の生活レベルでの民俗的継承」（近代的「エスニシティ」「ナショナリティ」と直結しない）を過度に無視し、大衆（常民）文化の歴史的ダイナミズムの主体性・自律性を軽視するという難点を内包している。
日本社会は、高級文化だけでなく、大衆文化も柔軟に受容し、「近代化」と共振するかたちで、その日本化を進めた。その一方、日本の在来文化の「近代化（欧米化）」も進行した。すなわち、この時期、外来文化のグローカリゼーション（日本化）と在来文化のトランスフォーメーション（欧米化）が同時に進行したのである。
このような、文化導入および再創出は、あらゆる領域で展開された。大衆音楽も例外ではない。日本近代の「はやりうた」「流行歌」には、こうしたグローカリゼーションとトランスフォーメーションの交差する地点で生まれる。
たとえば、古来の仏教音楽である「声明」や「雅楽」「和讃」「民謡」においても、新たな社会に適合し、その力を維持するために、むしろ積極的に外来音楽（キリスト教音楽を含む）の特性を内部に取り込んだ。反対に、「海外から移入された音楽」としての「ブルース」「ジャズ」などのなかには、「まったく別物」といわれるほどに日本化されたものも少なくない。これらの音楽の展開は、時間軸に沿った同化（assimilation）と異化（dissimilation）の再帰的相互創出のプロセスといえる。
報告者は、すでに2013年度の日本ポピュラー音楽学会において、「ブルースと子守歌」がともに「死にゆく者のうた」である点に着目し、それぞれの発生の社会的背景、社会的認知、および「流行歌」化のプロセスについて報告を行った。
本報告では、とくに「ブルース」の日本化と「子守歌」の近代化をとりあげ、その交錯と共振について考察することとする。それは、現代まで続く、重要な文化的ダイナミズムを理論化しようとする試みでもある。
