1997年にはじまったフジロックフェスティバルは、その後の音楽イベントやライブ文化に大きな影響を与えた。それから20年近くが経過し、「フェス」をとりまく状況は、当時とはまったく異なるものへと変化している。それはすなわち、フェス文化なるものが芽生え、日本の社会的あるいは文化的な条件に適応する形で、その都度最適化されてきた結果であるといえるだろう。90年代からゼロ年代を経たフェスが、近年、次のフェーズへ移行しつつあるとして、現時点でその流れを把握し、それがどのようにローカライズされまた受容されているのかを整理しておくことは、ポピュラー音楽文化を語るうえで重要な作業だといえるのではないだろうか。
90年代以降のフェスティバルの台頭は、アメリカ、オーストラリア、ヨーロッパをはじめとして、海外にも見受けられるグローバルな現象でもある。さらにいえばこれらの地域ではフェスやイベントは学術的な研究テーマとして確立されており、近年は研究成果の出版が相次いでいる。
他方で日本ではフェスへの関心が高まりつつあるものの、学術的には未開の領域である。またフェスの魅力を伝えるメディアも、ウェブを中心に台頭しつつあるものの、成熟しているとは言い難い。その意味でフェス文化自体がまだ未解明の現象であり、今後研究や分析がすすむことがのぞまれる。
こうした問題意識のもと、本ワークショップではフェスの学術的な研究をおこなう際に、あるいはフェスを語る際にどういうテーマ設定やアプローチが可能かを探ることを目的とする。
そのために、以下のような転回をおこない、あえてフェスを「問題化」してみたい。
フェスの数自体が増えたものの、当然のことながら、誰もが必ずしもそれを楽しみにして参加しているわけではない。そして、こうした問題つまりフェスに「行く／行かない」は、多くの場合、個人の嗜好性の問題だとみなされよう。この時「フェスはすべての人に等しく開かれている」「誰でも参加することができる」という認識が背景にあるのではないだろうか。
本ワークショップではこの前提を疑ってみるところから思考をはじめてみたい。つまり「フェスはすべての人に等しく開かれておらず」、フェスに行ける人と行けない人が存在するという出発点からの試論である。
なお、この発想自体はレジャー･スタディーズにヒントを得ている。小澤考人（2010）によると70年代半ば以降の英国レジャー･スタディーズは、「『誰もが余暇を持つ』『万人が余暇を自由に使える』という余暇社会学の出発点に対する批判的な問題提起」であり、「万人が等しく余暇を享受できないという現状認識を出発点として、異なる他者の間で『余暇の使い方／使われ方』をめぐる差異や分割が生じていること」を指摘し、余暇をジェンダー、エスニシティ、階級、失業といったトピックと結びつけることで広がりをみせた。
無論フェスと余暇では性質が異なるのだが、「行く／行かない」という自由を、「行ける／行けない」に転回することで、フェスはさまざまなテーマと接合することができるのではないだろうか。
以上の背景と狙いを共有しつつ、永井純一が主旨説明と先行研究のレビューをした後、永田夏来は「ジェンダーと消費」、山崎翔は「フェス主催者の世代」についての事例紹介や考察をおこなう。詳細は以下のとおり。
「ジェンダーから見るフェス参加——出生階層と生活状況による違いはあるのか」永田夏来
90年代後半より本格的におこなわれるようになった日本のロックフェスだが、今日では「夏フェス」としてこれまでとは異なる文脈が共有され始めているようにみられる。本報告では「音楽」を主軸とした非日常経験である「ロックフェス」から、食べ物や服装などを含む日常的なレジャーとしての「夏フェス」への移行について、ジェンダーという観点から整理を試みる。また、「フェス」経験を持つ者とそうでない者について音楽への消費的な関わり方やコミュニケーションのあり方に着もくした分析をおこなう。
「フェス主催者が設定する参加者―環境とふるまいに着目して」山崎翔
フェスにおいて参加者はまずその特有の環境に適応できるかどうかが試される。参加者はフェスの環境に身を投じ、適応できるか／できないかを身体で知覚する。その結果、フェスをリピートする、あるいは離脱することになるが、それはフェスに行く／行かない以前に、自らの身体がフェスを受け入れるか（行ける）／拒絶するか（行けない）の問題であるといえる。
この問いを考える上で、本報告では2000年代後半から増加し続けるフェス主催者に着目する。フェス主催者とは、フェスを受け入れるだけでなく、フェスという環境を積極的に望み、自らその環境を創出する存在である。本報告では、山崎がコーディネートした主催者同士のワークショップ等の調査結果を用い、主催者にとっての理想のフェスや上級者のみが立ち入ることのできるフェスについて考えてみたい。
「音楽シーンの地域性（格差）」ゆーきゃん
ゆーきゃん氏はフェス主催者として「音楽シーンの地域性（格差）」を念頭に、これらの報告についてのコメントをおこない、その後フロアを交えたディスカッションへと発展させる。
「行く／行かない」「行ける／行けない」はあくまでも議論のとっかかりとして、参加者には積極的に発言をしてもらえれば幸いである。
